In the presentation at NADA the artists’s duo, Ugnius Gelguda and Neringa Černiauskaitė, continues the exploration of the relationship between imagination and the future.  How the future is imagined today? What imagery and materials contemporary futurist choose to express their visions? Velocity, syntheticity, seriality travels through bodies and mater. The artists take over these ideas and strategies, weaving them into larger fields of art history, design and music. This exploration will not end with NADA fair, and will continue and evolve in their solo shows in New York and Vilnius, Lithuania.

At this year’s NADA NY, the artists featured porcelain copies of trees’ samples collected in the parks of New York after the Sandy storm, making the ordinary precious for the archeology of the future. Next to them – a clothing created in collaboration with an artist Jeannine Han, which translates the shapes of the (former) organic elements into a pattern and layers that reflect the current imagery and experiences generated through the screens of ubiquitous devices. Third piece, a short video is a semantic and sonic interplay of the futuristic sound samples that can be found in the early synthesizers invented by the futurist Ray Kurzweil. The video functions as a primitive commercial clip that features futuristic ideas that travelled from the past, and that today has gained new meanings and urgency.

Ugnius Gelguda and Neringa Černiauskaitė started collaborating in 2009. Since their first project, the artists have been interested in visual memory and how it can be manipulated through usage of certain mediums. Both artists are based in Vilnius and Brooklyn, New York. Their solo shows include venues of kim? Contemporary Art Center, Riga (forthcoming), Contemporary Art Center (CAC), Vilnius (forthcoming), 321 Gallery (forthcoming), Brooklyn, New York, Anything is always nearby or next to something else, Microscope Gallery, Brooklyn, New York (screening event) (2013), Now More Than Ever, Contemporary Art Center (CAC), Vilnius (2012). Their work has been featured in group shows at CCS Bard / Hessel Museum of Art, New York, Moderna Museet, Malmö, Sweden (forthcoming), ar/ge Kunst Gallery Museum, Bolzano, Italy (2013). Ugnius Gelguda is represented by Galerija VARTAI, Vilnius.

Jeannine Han is from Oakland, CA., and currently lives and works as an artist and designer in New York City. Maintaining an interdisciplinary practice, including textiles, fashion, installations, and collaborative works, she explores how interactions with everyday objects create meaning. Her object landscapes result in a time-based experience that leaves the viewer to reimagine the realities the objects represent. She is engaged in creating a dialogue between material and process where her projects frequently involve the history and recontextualization of women’s work.

Her most recent work is with Ugnius Gelguda and Neringa Černiauskaitė called The Metaphysics of the Runner exhibited at NADA, New York 2014, and 321 Gallery. Jeannine is also currently working as an adjunct professor at Parsons The New School For Design.
